The Haozhan Wine List

Wine List

Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of unmodified grape juice. The natural chemical balance of grapes is such that they ferment without the addition of sugars, acids, enzymes or other nutrients. Although other fruits like apples and berries can also be fermented, the resultant "wines" are normally named after the fruit (for example, apple wine or elderberry wine) and are generically known as fruit or country wine. Others, such as barley wine and rice wine (e.g. sake) are made from starch-based materials and resemble beer more than wine, while ginger wine is fortified with brandy.

The word "wine" derives from the Proto-Germanic *winam, an early borrowing from the Latin vinum, "wine" or "(grape) vine", itself derived from the Proto-Indo-European stem *win-o-.

Any wine drinker will casually tell you that red wine goes well with meat and white with seafood. However, with Chinese dining, this general thought may not always be too helpful. The reason is in Chinese cuisine, the sauces which accompany the dish creates different flavours which promote new senses. What we have done is prepared a list which we have tried and tested to be enjoyable on their own and going on to complement your meal, no matter whether it's meat or seafood you order. If you feel adventurous, allow our manager to recommend you something out of the ordinary, you may be pleasantly suprised. Don't forget to have a look at our selection of cocktails too.

Cheers!
